Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My little sister is visiting me here in Chicago for the week and we've been spending lots of quality time exploring the city and hanging out. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I hope you will take a moment to hear about a campaign that I am working on.

Many of you have heard me talk about Carey Sims. Carey has been my vocal coach, mentor and friend for several years now. You may also know he produced my record and can be heard singing backup on it as well.  This year Carey has encountered some vocal problems. The doctor thinks he will be able to recover but it will require him to not use his voice for an extended period of time. Carey makes his living as full time musician and yoga instructor - both of these activities require vocal use.

If Carey does not teach a yoga class or sing a gig then he does not get paid. To help him navigate this period without income, as well as medical bills he may incur I've launched a GoFundMe campaign. All the money raised will go directly to Carey. Please take a moment to learn more about Carey and what you can do to help below. I appreciate any time you may give this, even if you are unable to donate just sharing the link is helpful!

Let's help this fantastic human being!

Peace and Love,

Rolfe

Long week.

I hope everyone had a great week! I've been in bed all week with the flu, but I wanted to send something out this week even if it's brief. Thanks to everyone who came out to my Chicago show last week at Silvie's, I had a wonderful time and it was great to see so many familiar faces and meet new ones.

Today we lost another great artist, the talented Sharon Jones. She had been battling cancer for many years and unfortunately it took her life. She was 60 years old. Take a moment to check out her gifts below.

2016 has not been kind to our brothers and sisters in music. For those of us left behind we have records to listen to and inspiration to fuel our own creations.

Hopefully I'll be back on my feet in a few days and can write something more substantial next week. Take care! xo

PS: GO GET A FLU SHOT.

Dearly beloved.

I woke up Wednesday horrified. Like many, my worst nightmare had become a reality. Despite others' unwavering faith in Secretary Clinton, I always feared that Mr. Trump would take the presidency. I've spent the last few days and hours trying to make sense of our new reality. I've called my friends and loved ones, read articles, and even joined several thousand discontent citizens outside of Trump Tower in Chicago on Wednesday night. Despite these meditations I have not reached any grand conclusions other than the following:

Artists and creative people, this is your time. We need you more than ever. It is time to pick up your paintbrushes, pens, grab a microphone and step up. I don't care if you are singing a song about a break up or an incensed political anthem - sing something. Make art. Do it for yourself, do it for all of us.

Despite the deep sadness that I can't seem to shake, I feel an increased capacity for kindness and compassion for my fellow man. Even towards folks with different political views than myself - we can either all go down together or lift each other up. I hope everybody has a great weekend spending time on the important stuff - whatever that is for you.
